Installation

Place the apc_pdu_breakers.xml and apc_pdu_phases.xml files in <path_cacti>/resource/snmp_queries/. Then import the host template XML file into your Cacti installation using the 'Import Templates' function. Here is what to expect upon a successful import:

To create a new PDU host, follow the same procedure as normal and select 'APC InfraStruXure PDU' as the host template. There are two data queries available, 'APC - PDU - Breaker Statistics' and 'APC - PDU - Phase Statistics'. The Phase statistics allows you to create graphs based on by-phase information provided by the PDU. The breakers query allows an amperage load graph to be generated for *every* breaker in the PDU cabinet. This can quickly become overkill, but in our production environment we had no problem polling 282 breaker positions using a 1 minute poller with no noticeable slowdown in poller runtime. Unfortunately all that is provided is amps for each of these breaker positions. And to be clear, this is polling every 'pole' on the PDU panel, not just single breakers. Thus, if you have 3 pole (3 phase) breakers this will occupy 3 'positions' and you'll have 3 separate amperage graphs for that one 'circuit'. To obtain something like kW, you'd be required to derive the voltage for a given pole, along with the system power factor, to compute the kW of a given circuit. It would have been nice if APC would have done this work and provided it via the MIB like other vendors such as Server Technology. I suppose it would be possible to use a Script Query to accomplish this (at the time I developed this template set I had no Script Query skillz) but I have a sinking suspicion that this script would tip over a Cacti server :P

On a separate note, don't be disappointed when you end up with blank or erroneous graphs from the breakers. We have found that the CT boards that monitor each branch circuit are extremely unreliable and prone to failure. Replacing one is a tedious and expensive task!
